American women online continue to converge with their national demographic profile – with a clear numeric ascendancy over the opposite sex, reports Jupiter Media Metrix.

In its May study, the web research specialist records that 40.9% of all web users were adult women, a year-on-year increase from 40.3%. Conversely, adult men ceded yet more ground, their numbers falling to only 39.8% of all US surfers, compared with 40.1% in the same period last year.

Men, however, continue to spend more time than women connected to the web – sixteen percent more – and also browse more intensely, clocking 31% more web page views.
