The signatures of a number of WPP Group directors will for the first time adorn the company’s accounts for the year ending December 30, not only certifying the fiscal authenticity of the numbers but also signifying their own personal responsibility.

The move is voluntary but in line with the latest best practice guidelines.

It also emulates 947 companies headquartered in the USA which have been mandated by the Securities and Exchange Commission to certify their financial statements by tomorrow, August 14.

WPP is not one of those companies.
