London-headquartered WPP Group has moved to ensure consistency across its worldwide media interests with the formation of The Channel – a centralized global “co-ordination unit” that will oversee the activities of Media Edge, MindShare and other WPP-controlled media specialists.

Mandy Pooler, former ceo of MindShare UK, will take the same role at The Channel, responsible for global media strategy and the development of media analysis and planning tools for WPP units. She will also act as a consultant to the British arm of Media Edge – the Young & Rubicam planning and buying unit acquired by WPP last year along with its parent.

The implications of the move have not been spelled out and no executives of the affected companies were available for comment.
