Global telecoms giant Vodafone is reportedly reviewing its £12 million ($19.23m; €18.41m) sponsorship of the England cricket team in the wake of its recent walloping Down Under.

Although the five-year deal is still in its midterm, the sposorship apparently engenders scant enthusiasm in Vodafone chairman Lord Ian MacLaurin – who also formerly chaired the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Commenting on the team’s appeal for yet more sponsorship in the wake of its recent defeat by Australia, MacClaurin rhetorically asked: “Do you want to sponsor a side that's just got beaten 3-0, 3-2, or whatever it was?”

Clearly the noble Lord is not as fond of backing losers as Vodafone’s founder and outgoing ceo Sir Christopher Gent.
