PARIS: French media conglomerate Vivendi Universal, whose businesses include the Universal Music Group, pay-TV company Canal Plus and various telecos, has rejected a reported €40 billion ($50.8bn; £26.7bn) buyout offer from US private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts.

Vivendi says it reviewed the KKR bid but no agreement was reached and the talks have now ended.

This latest wooing of the French firm follows an unsuccessful pursuit earlier this year by Norwegian financier and shareholder Alexander Vik [WARC News: 09-Jun-06] who expressed interest in buying the company and breaking it up.
