PARIS: Vivendi ceo Jean-Bernard Lévy has dampened speculation that US giant General Electric is planning to offload its 80% stake in America's NBC Universal broadcasting group.

The French-headquartered media and telecoms conglomerate owns the other 20% of NBC. Lévy believes the success of the latter's Beijing Olympic Games coverage could give the hitherto struggling broadcaster "a new impulse, a new dynamism".

He insists GE ceo Jeffrey Immelt "has no plans to sell NBCU", while Vivendi is to undertake a review of its interest towards the end of this year.
