US telephone giant Verizon has reported "encouraging" uptake of its cable television service, FiOS.
The fiber optic network is now potentially available in around three million homes across 16 states, according to the company's ceo, Ivan Seidenberg. In its first market - Keller in Texas - Verizon now has penetration of about 20% since the launch late last year [WAMN: 23-Sept-05].
The company's goal is to make fiber services available to about 60% of the homes and businesses in its landline service territory.
Seidenberg, speaking at an investor conference in Arizona, said he saw further business market growth opportunities following its merger with MCI [WAMN: 03-May-05], for Verizon Wireless. He particulary cited a joint venture with UK wireless telco Vodafone .
