Two US-based companies aim to enhance their UK operations in an online alliance. Direct office supplies firm Viking Direct has linked with CompuServe UK in an attempt to boost E-commerce activities and grow its customer base.
Sited on CompuServe’s Shopping Channel, Viking will target SMEs via co-branded software that activates a Viking promotional pop-up screen when the user connects to the service. CompuServe UK members will be offered exclusive access to a range of online offers and interactive business facilities, while Viking is accorded an ‘anchor tenancy’ on the service.
Although Viking has its own transactional Web site [www.viking-direct.co.uk] it wants to hone its targeted communications with relevant product deals and information based on customers’ purchase histories. Says Anthony Richards, Viking Direct European business manager e-commerce: "I would expect our e-commerce to acquire increasing importance and this alliance is one way of helping to promote it".
The co-branded CDs will be mailed to Viking’s existing catalogue database and included with all its computer consumables and peripherals supplies.
