Anglo-Dutch consumer products giant Unilever announced there is to be no let-up in its brand disposal programme, with hundreds more products facing the chop.

Chairman Niall FitzGerald revealed that a further 300 brands will be sold or delisted by the end of this year, while 100 factories and distribution centres are due to close with 33,000 job losses.

FitzGerald stated that seven hundred brands, including Oxo and Batchelors, have already been sold, leaving the group with around 900. Unilever intends to retrench to around 400 ‘power-brands’ by 2003 [WAMN: 01-Sep-99].
