LONDON: Anglo-Dutch food and consumer goods giant Unilever is set to name Swedish industrialist Michael Treschow as non-executive chairman, the first time it has looked outside the company to fill such a role.

The company has been looking for some months for an "independent" chairman to mollify investors worried that ceo Patrick Cescau and chairman Antony Burgmans are too close in background and temperament.

Treschow is chairman both of Swedish telecoms equipment supplier Ericsson and Electrolux, the white goods maker also based in Sweden.
