Chicago-headquartered global print, distribution and fulfilment behemoth R R Donnelley & Sons has agreed to acquire British business and marketing services outsourcing specialist, the Astron Group.
The takeover, announced Monday, is said to be valued at $990 million (€765.78m; £522.98m) and, subject to regulatory approval, will be finalized this summer.
There is much apparent synergy between the two businesses, with Chicago-headquartered Donnelly dominating the US market with presences elsewhere on the globe. Astron whose corporate base is in Huntingdon, England, has twenty-seven sites in the UK plus over forty locations worldwide It employs around four thousand staff.
The UK company's main area of specialisation is business process outsourcing, including marketing services such as fulfilment.
Says Astron ceo David Mitchell: "R R Donnelley is the perfect partner for [us]. Combining Donnelley's global leadership with Astron's expertise in BPO provides our customers with an unparalleled offering."
Donnelly too declared itself pleased with the deal, prompting ceo Mark A Angelson to observe it will "take us farther up the food chain. It gives us more products and services to sell to domestic and overseas customers."
