WASHINGTON DC: US politicians could spend up to $1.6 billion (€1.26bn; £850m) on television advertising this year for state and national candidates and related issues, a TNS Media Intelligence survey predicts.

The researcher says despite the surge of interest in blogging and websites, local and national broadcast TV is expected to take most of the ad dollars for the upcoming primaries and presidential race.

Evan Tracey, chief operating officer of the campaign media analysis group at TNS, told a New York conference that "ultimately at the end of the day, television is the biggest megaphone that these campaigns have".
