WASHINGTON, DC: Middle America's bosom friend Oprah Winfrey launched her own radio channel, Oprah and Friends, Monday morning on XM Satellite Radio - the fruit of a three-year, $55 million (€43.15m; £.9m) deal struck in February.
Beaten to the punch, larger rival Sirius Satellite Radio announced the same day that Jane Pratt, founder and former editor-in-chief of Jane magazine, will host her own radio show on the Sirius network.
Pratt, who also boasts a high TV profile - albeit a valley alongside Oprah's Everest - will air her live three hour show once-weekly. Branded Jane Radio it will feature music, rants, and call-ins. A starting date has yet to be announced.
