United Parcels Services has become the second big-name sponsor to withdraw its backing of the Olympic Games, following in the wake of IBM which quit after the Sydney event this summer.

UPS has been a mainstream Olympic sponsor since 1994. No reason was given for the withdrawal – although recent research has indicated confusion about the identity of Olympic sponsors as well as diminished public recognition [WAMN: 12-Sep-00].
