UPROAR AS CAMELOT PLANS LOTTERY LOYALTY SCHEME

News, 01 February 1998

NATIONAL LOTTERY OPERATOR Camelot has come under fire from anti-gambling groups, following leaked news that the company plans to launch a lottery loyalty card. The lobbyists claim the scheme will not only increase the number of players but encourage existing punters to increase their spend. The smartcard-based programme is likely to emulate those of supermarkets and its prime objective is to build a ten million strong database of lottery players. It is understood that an unnamed ad agency has already been appointed with a brief to promote punter-recruitment.
