Digital terrestrial TV is dead! Long live digital terrestrial TV!
Just four months after the bier of bankrupt ITV Digital was solemnly laid to timely rest, Albion’s non-cable and satellite screens will once again glow with digital delights, courtesy of the BBC, BSkyB and US transmission specialist Crown Communications.
Their new digital service Freeview will launch October 30 with a thirty-channel offering, including two new 24-hour music channels from MTV and Emap. Other channels include two general entertainment channels, one from BSkyB; UKTV’s UK HomeStyle; and the Flextech Television Network.
Freeview will also carry interactive and digital radio channels - plus the existing free-to-air channels such as BBC Choice, BBC Four, and news channels ITN News and BBC News 24.
