The UK manufacturing sector bucked expectations in March with a decline in output, according to latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.
Output dipped 0.3% compared with the previous month, a far cry from analysts' forecasts of a 0.5% increase. Year-on-year, output rose 0.4%, below predictions of 1%.
The findings are at odds with industry figures from bodies such as the CBI, which last month claimed factory orders were at a nine-year high.
