BRUSSELS: The IAB Europe Interact Congress in Brussels heard this week that its thirteen member-nations between them spent €8 billion ($10.79bn; £5.42bn) on internet advertising in 2006.

Leading the pack were UK marketers who accounted for thirty-nine per cent of the total sum, €3.1bn, according to a study produced for the IAB by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Completing the five top-spending nations were:

    2. Germany €1.7bn (22%)

    3. France €1.18bn (15%)

    4. The Netherlands €564.3m (7%)

    5. Italy €480.2m (6%).
Elsewhere in Europe the residual €927m (12%) was divided between Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Slovenia and Spain.

Comments IAB Europe president Alain Heureux: "The Interact Congress, the first of its kind, is the perfect platform for the presentation of this sector's growing success and delegates will go away from here with the tools, knowhow and inspiration to grow the sector still further."
