THE UPCOMING EC Distance Selling Directive appears set to ban unsolicited e-mail in the UK when the legislation is implemented later this year. Individual governments have freedom of choice as whether they adopt an opt-in or opt-out mechanism for unsolicited e-mail and the DTI has asked members of the UK internet industry to consider ways in which the former could be introduced. The Government is expected to make a final decision before the end of the year.
