British agency WCRS, which earlier this week picked up Vodafone’s UK creative duties without a pitch, is thought to be head-to-head with Wieden & Kennedy in the final round of the telecom giant’s worldwide ad account review.
Incumbent McCann-Erickson World Group, which last year won Vodafone’s international rebranding task, was dropped in an earlier round, alongside New York’s Berlin, Cameron & Partners.
Vodafone’s global brand director David Haines has set about overhauling the group’s advertising arrangements since his appointment in November. A review of worldwide media buying is also anticipated in the near future.
As for WCRS, the award of Vodafone’s UK duties compensates for the loss of the Orange account last August. At the time, the agency decided to retain all the 53 staff employed on the business, vowing to land another telecoms task – which it duly did.
