Zenith Media, incumbent shop on the £17 million Halifax account within the recently merged Halifax Bank of Scotland Group, has a battle royal on its hands with £22 million of combined billings the glittering prize.

There is only one other contender: BBJ Media Services, a unit of Aegis Group, whose sister shop Feather Brooksbank currently handles the £5m media planning/buying business for Bank of Scotland.

The merger of the two financial services titans was announced in May, resulting in the inevitable upheaval of marketing arrangements. In August a Halifax staffer, Philip Hanson, was appointed head of marketing for the combined HBOS Retail unit and charged with hiking the low-level profile of Bank of Scotland – ironically the senior partner in the melded group.

Hanson promptly consolidated all the new group’s creative business with former Halifax shop Delaney Lund Knox Warren & Partners after a three-sided contest.
