British newspaper group Trinity Mirror enjoyed a successful start to the fourth quarter, with both advertising and circulation rising.

After declining 2.5% in the third quarter (ended September), ad revenues crept up 0.3% in the first two months of Q4.

At flagship national titles The Mirror and Sunday Mirror, advertising bounced back from a 1.7% fall in October with a 5.7% November surge, helped by healthy retail spend. December is predicted to be even better.

Moreover, on the back of exclusive interviews with Paul Burrell – the former butler of Princess Diana whose trial sensationally collapsed after intervention from the Queen – last month’s circulation figures rose 1.9% year-on-year and 2.5% against October.

Advertising was also up at Trinity’s regional titles, rising 1.2% in October and 0.6% last month after a 2.4% Q3 decline. However, circulation dipped 1.5% from July to November.
