Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation, currently world number two by sales volume, is set to overtake leader General Motors next year, according to a Japanese newspaper report.

Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported Wednesday that Toyota is expected to boost automobile production by twelve percent in 2006, boosting output to more than 9.2 million units.

GM, on the other hand, presently beset by falling sales and factory closures, seems highly unlikely to better its current-year worldwide sales forecast of 9.12m units.
