Auto maker Toyota has kicked off a review of its African-American advertising account.

Although no contenders have been named, the client has identified around twenty agencies without car accounts, according to vp–marketing Steve Sturm, with invitations due to be sent out in the near future. The “near-term” appointment, said Sturm, is expected by late summer.

The business is currently handled by Saatchi & Saatchi in Los Angeles, which also services the auto firm’s Hispanic account. However, a promotional postcard produced by Saatchi was recently branded “offensive” by Rev. Jesse Jackson, who called for the firing of the agency in a meeting with Toyota late last month.
