CHICAGO: There's change afoot within the top marketing echelons of three major multinationals - McDonald's, eBay and South Korea's LG Electronics.
A McDonald's veteran of twenty-five years, William Lamar (55), chief marketing officer for the USA, is to retire at the end of Q1 2008, handing over the gilded-arches' reins to appropriately named Neil Golden (46).
The latter will assume responsibility for new initiatives, strategic planning, plan development and ethnic marketing. He began his McDonald's career in 1989 as a regional marketing supervisor for the Indianapolis region.
Uttering the time-honored cliché about "spending more time with family", eBay cmo for North America Gary Briggs (44) is leaving after six years in the role to do exactly that. "I have the opportunity to go and be a dad," he said.
Briggs is replaced with immediate effect by veteran marketing executive Mike Linton (50), previously eBay's senior VP-marketplace adjacencies.
Irishman Dermot Boden has been appointed to the newly created role of cmo at South Korean titan LG Electronics. He starts work at the company's headquarters in Seoul this month.
Boden formerly ran Pfizer's operations for the Asia region and has been imported as a an agent for change. He is charged with developing a global marketing strategy for LG and upgrading its marketing systems.
Additionally, he'll have a new agency to oversee, with London-based Bartle Bogle Hegarty expected to be named this week to handle LG's $350 million global brand and product account.
