British media group Carlton Communications and international media technology firm Thomson Multimedia have set up a jointly owned cinema advertising group.
The move coincides with the duo’s £62 million ($90m; €99m) purchase of the cinema ad properties of UGC in France and Belgium’s RTBF.
Aside from these two markets, the new venture (owned 50:50) also has interests in Italy, Spain and nine other European nations. It has deals with international cinema chains such as Warner Village, Kinepolis, AMC and UGC, plus domestic operators in all the markets concerned.
The duo are no strangers – they own a US cinema ad operation called Screenvision, and Carlton holds a 5.5% stake in Thomson.
However, UK market leader Carlton Screen Advertising continues to be a wholly owned subsidiary of Carlton.
