Paul Woolmington, worldwide strategic officer and vice chairman at WPP-owned The Media Edge, is leaving the global media specialist under the time-honored ‘mutual arrangement’ formula.

His role – and indeed the very existence of The Media Edge – has been under question since the former Y&R unit fell into the clutches of WPP, which also owns global media top-gun MindShare.

The moving finger writ for Woolmington in November 1999 when he was demoted from the role of president on the appointment of Beth Gordon as chairman and chief executive.

Claimed Woolmington, the former worldwide media director of Ammirati Puris Lintas in London before moving to TME in New York: "Beth Gordon and I mutually agreed that I will part company with TME."

He is to pursue a new venture unconnected with WPP, about which: “I am really excited … it will be groundbreaking."
