US-owned cable TV, telecoms and internet group Telewest (whose operations are primarily UK-located), has asked its audit committee to investigate sales commissions paid by a unit of its Interactive Digital Sales division.

The unit, which sells TV advertising time on stations in which Telewest has a stake, appears to have paid around £5 million ($9.69m; €7.29m) in aggregate commissions from 2001 to date.

The cable operator, currently immersed in red ink, does not expect the issue to have a material impact on its results.
