TRINITY MIRROR AND SOUTHNEWS INK DEAL

News, 30 October 2000

Trinity Mirror, the UK’s biggest newspaper publishing group, whose national portfolio includes the Mirror, Sunday Mirror and Sunday People, agreed on Friday a £284.6 million ($407m) deal for the acquisition of weekly newspaper group Southnews.

London-based Southnews has eighty-four weekly controlled circulation and cover-price titles in London and the south-east region. It posted pre-tax profits of £7.8m in the half-year to September 30.

Trinity forecasts that the buy will start to enhance the group’s earnings as of next year.
