ONE OF 1999’s highest profile promotions, a free PC, was unceremoniously dumped by its promoterTiny Telecom, a subsidiary of PC manufacturer and retailer Tiny Computers. According to Tiny: 'What we discovered is that 95% of customers decided they preferred a £200 discount off the Pentium II range rather than the free lower-range PC.' The promo was launched with extensive press advertising and editorial coverage on 16 July, offering a free low spec computer without a monitor in return for signing a twelve month contract with Tiny’s fledgling telecoms venture. As an alternative, a higher specification PC was offered at a £200 discount.
