Americans consider customer service in supermarkets to be better than in any other industry, according to research from Harris Interactive.

Covering fifteen business sectors, the yearly Harris Poll asked 1,010 adults: “Do you think [insert industry] generally does a good or bad job serving its consumers?’

Supermarkets – included in the survey for the first time – received positive responses from 85% of participants, well ahead of packaged food companies in second place on 75%. Other highly rated sectors include hospitals (73%), banks (72%), computer hardware (71%) and software (70%).

Bottom of the list came managed-care and tobacco companies (30% each), with health insurance (40%) and oil firms (42%) little better.
