Bcom3’s Starcom has retained the increased $38.8 million media account of the Spanish Treasury, a unit of the nation’s economy and finance ministry.

Incumbent Starcom fended-off a quintet of challenges from local shop Red De Medios, Carat, CIA Spain, Havas unit Media Planning and Publicis Groupe-owned Optimedia.

The business will primarily cover advertised information on public debt and the upcoming launch in Spain of the Euro currency – for which Omnicom’s TBWA won the creative account earlier this month [WAMN: 8-Feb-01].
