LONDON: Sports sponsorship in Europe is now worth £6.7 billion ($13.7bn; €9.6bn) a year, according to latest figures from researcher International Market Reports.

The value of sports brands has grown 37% since 2000, with soccer leading the sponsorship table at £1.8bn. In second spot is motor sport with £1.5bn.

The financial services sector is the biggest sponsor of sport, accounting for 13% of all deals. In the UK that figure rises to 22%.

Comments report author Simon Rines: "There's clearly strong growth in sponsorship rights fees across Europe, especially among the high-profile properties such as FIFA, UEFA, premier football clubs and Formula 1."
