The ad grapevine is rife with rumors of three-way cosy chats between a trio of senior agency honchos.
WPP Group's Sir Martin Sorrell and Ed Meyer of Grey Global Group have reportedly been chewing the fat with Euro RSCG Worldwide ceo James R Heekin on several occasions over the past few months - and it is not thought that the price of fish figured large in their conversations.
A more likely topic is the volatile environment within the Havas group - Euro RSCG's troubled parent - and the fact that Meyer, now 78, is due to step down next year from his triple role as Grey's chairman, president and chief executive.
Indeed, a scenario in which Heekin assumes Meyer's mantle could well explain the frequent contacts in recent months between Sorrell and new Havas Czar Vincent Bolloré [WAMN: 25-Apr-05]. Word from within the Grey bunker is that Heekin could be signed to Grey within the next month.
The situation is quite a turnaround for Heekin.
In October 2003 he joined Euro RSCG after being ousted as chairman-ceo of McCann Erickson Worldwide in the wake of a financial debacle that caused Interpublic Group to restate $181.3 million (€148.6m; £102.12m) in earnings.
