Scottish media firm SMG is reportedly in talks with broadcasting giant ITV plc over a sale of its television assets.
SMG owns two of the four licences for the ITV national network not already held by the newly merged ITV plc. It also has a 25% stake in GMTV, which supplies the network's breakfast programming.
ITV plc chief executive Charles Allen has made no secret of his desire to obtain SMG's licences if the price is right. The Scottish group, which also owns national radio station Virgin Radio, has recently been forced to offload assets in order to cut debt.
