The newly-created position of chief executive, newspapers at regional and national publisher Trinity Mirror has been filled by Joe Sinyor, imported from consumer electronics manufacturer Sony.
Sinyor, who has no previous experience of publishing, is currently European head of Sony’s UK operations and also doubles as head of its European personal audio business. Prior to this, he was managing director of book-selling chain Dillons.
At Trinity, Sinyor will have responsibility for all the group’s newspaper titles, including The Mirror, The Daily Record in Scotland, the Sunday Mirror and regional papers Birmingham Evening Mail and Liverpool Echo.
Unnamed for several days whilst his release from Sony was under negotiation, Sinyor’s appointment coincided with – and, allege some TM insiders, was responsible for - the abrupt exit of Roger Eastoe, managing director of national newspapers and Mirror veteran of 25 years. [WAMN: 18-Sep-00].
