LONDON: UK commercial broadcaster ITV is reaping the rewards of the England team's unexpected progress through the current Rugby World Cup tournament.

The side's nail-biting quarter-final victory over Australia at the weekend, and the French squad's stunning win over favourites New Zealand have paved the way for a marketer's dream semi-final between the two arch-adversaries on Saturday.

The game in Paris is expected to attract 10 million television viewers in the UK, while media agencies estimate ad revenues for ITV of around £2.5 million ($5m; €3.6m), far more than £1m for the predicted southern hemisphere meeting.
