In contrast to the rest of the advertising industry, UK online adspend is set for a bumper year, with growth of over 100% according to Omnicom unit Optimedia.
The agency forecasts total spend on internet ads of £210 million in 2001, compared to £100m last year. By 2005 the figure will have jumped to £710m.
Optimedia also pointed to the rapid adoption of digital TV, with Sky Digital as the most popular operator. However, digital cable TV uptake is also expected to soar in 2001.
