The UK's radio audience measurement body, RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research), has completed tests on three electronic audiometers.
The organisation aims to replace its current paper diary system with electronic monitoring by 2007.
Results of the Audiometer Validation Test, designed to determine how well competing systems identify up to 33 different music and speech-based radio services, have produced two shortlisted contenders.
Going forward to the next round are the Arbitron PPM and the Eurisko Media Monitor. The GfK/Telecontrol MediaWatch has been dropped, at least for the present.
