Denver-headquartered Qwest Communications, the global broadband internet-based communications company, has set the wheels in motion to consolidate its advertising account within a single agency.

With an estimated annual spend of $100m, competition for the business is likely to be cut-throat. Among the shops said to be honing their razors are current incumbents DDB Worldwide (Chicago) and J Walter Thompson (New York). Also stropping away are Leo Burnett USA in Chicago and Foote Cone & Belding in New York

Qwest, meantime, declined to comment on the contest.
