D C Thompson, the Dundee-headquartered publisher with an extensive portfolio of titles ranging from comics to a Sunday national newspaper, has increased to nearly 9.6% its stake in Scottish Radio Holdings.
Thompson, whose obsession for secrecy is such that even the staff restaurant menu is said to be classified information, now holds some 3.16 million shares in the broadcaster.
Observers see the move as a canny short term investment in anticipation of a liberalisation in legislation governing cross-media ownership. Following relaxation of the rules, Scottish Media Group – already holding around 20.75% of Scottish Radio – is widely expected to mount a takeover bid.
Such a bid would greatly enhance D C Thompson’s closely-guarded coffers.
