PARIS: Publicis Groupe is to buy Performics, Google-owned DoubleClick's search marketing arm, for an undisclosed sum. It is understood the French conglomerate beat WPP Group to clinch the deal.

Chicago-headquartered Performics helps companies such as Hewlett-Packard, United Airlines and Verizon Wireless optimize their search-ad spending.

Publicis says the acquisition will extend operations in the UK, Germany, Asia and the US. It aims to derive 25% of group revenues from digital ads by 2010.
