Soon-to-merge pharmaceutical and household products giants Glaxo Welcome and SmithKline Beecham have appointed M & C Saatchi following the holding of a creative beauty pageant in New York City.

Having out-shimmied Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, New York, Saatchi’s assignment is global in scope involving both its London and New York offices. The main focus will be US-directed, even though both the betrothed clients are based in London.

Completion of the $76 billion merger is scheduled for next month and Saatchi’s task will break with a campaign announcing the formalised deal. A corporate image campaign is expected to follow.
