American TV queen and publishing phenomenon Oprah Winfrey is set to announce the launch in South Africa of the first non-US version of her women’s lifestyle title O: The Oprah Magazine.

A joint operation between Winfrey’s Harpo Print, Hearst Magazines and Associated Magazines South Africa, the new edition will publish bimonthly with 110 ad pages and an estimated launch circulation of 110,000.

“This will be the first crossover magazine title in South Africa,” effused Hearst Magazines International president George J Green. “In South Africa, there are magazines that blacks read and magazine that whites read, but this is a magazine for the new South Africa. It's a magazine for the South Africa that is in the process of becoming.”

The title is due to be unveiled today at Johannesburg’s Saxon Hotel, the first residence of Nelson Mandela after leaving prison.
