Omnicom Group, top dog among the world's marketing services agency groups, reported Tuesday a 9.2% rise in third quarter net income to $145.3 million (€113.89m; £79.1m).

Sales rose 14% to $2.32 billion, bettering analysts' consensus expectations of $2.25bn and comfortably ahead of WPP Group, its nearest rival (see story listed below).

According to Omnicom's chief financial officer Randall J Weisenburger, the company notched $949 million in net new business during the quarter - including a major slice of Mars business snatched from Grey Global Group, currently being integrated into WPP.

Other significant wins included sandwich-shop chains Quiznos Subs and Subway Restaurants.
