ONLINE SPENDING SURGES 5% FROM ‘BACK TO SCHOOL’ BUYING

The annual ‘back to school’ shopping bonanza boosted internet retail sales in August by 5% year-on-year, rising to $4.2 billion.

According to the National Retail Federation's monthly survey, conducted by Forrester Research and Greenfield Online, fifteen million homes made online purchases, with an average spend per person of $280. Apparel and footwear were the two fastest-growing sectors.
