LONDON - WPP Group has recruited Steve Heyer, president and chief operating officer of Turner Broadcasting, to serve as a non-executive director. Heyer is a former president and chief operating officer of Young & Rubicam Advertising Worldwide – currently under acquisition by WPP.

Advertising Council Names Officers
NEW YORK - The Advertising Council has named John H Costello, chief executive at MVP.com in Chicago, as chairman. He succeeds James G Oates, the former president at the Leo Burnett Company in Chicago. Mr. Costello, who will serve as chairman for a year, had been a vice chairman of the council since 1997. Vice chairwoman for the year to come is Andrea J Alstrup, vice president advertising and marketing at Johnson & Johnson. The Council co-ordinates public service campaigns for Madison Avenue

Pepsi Parodies Coke’s Indian Commercial
BOMBAY - Hindustan Thompson Associates' latest commercial for Pepsi India spoofs Coca-Cola’s current local campaign starring Bollywood heart-throb Hrithik Roshan. In the Coke ad created by Chaitra Leo Burnett, Bombay, Roshan wins a game of "spin the bottle" and gets to kiss the girl. Pepsi has retaliated with a Roshan lookalike, aping even his clothing and headband. The ad also has a double of Coke’s child onlooker of the kissing game. According to Pepsi’s research, Indian teens are increasingly hankering for real romance in their lives.

US Edition of Elle Gets New Editor
NEW YORK - Hachette Filipacchi Magazines yesterday named the former editor-in-chief of Mirabella, Roberta Myers, to a mirror role at the US edition of Elle. She takes up her new position on June 5, reporting to François Vincens, director of Hachette's international editions.
