GUTERSLOH, GERMANY -- Mark Woessner, 61, chairman of the Bertelsmann Media Group supervisory board and member of the executive board of the Bertelsmann Foundation, will end his 32-year career with the German media giant on Oct.31 to pursue an undisclosed personal venture. He will be replaced by Gerd Schulte-Hillen, chairman of the executive board of Bertelsmann subsidiary Gruner + Jahr, while Bertelsmann founder Reinhard Mohn will take the chair of the Bertelsmann Foundation.

BOSTON, MASS -- Hill Holliday, Boston has hired June Blocklin, 40, and Mike Sheehan, 39, as co-presidents. Blocklin, former exec VP-director of advertising service at Hill Holliday is joined by Sheehan, the former executive creative director, DDB Worldwide, Chicago. He will take up the Boston-based post in July and also assume the title of chief creative officer, replacing Fred Bertino, 42, now president of Square One.

NEW YORK -- German media giant Bertelsmann AG is expected to announce today the appointment of Daniel B Brewster as chief executive of its Gruner + Jahr magazine titles in the US. Brewster, presently chief executive of American Express Publishing, will replace John Heins who left in February for a senior executive position with AOL subsidiary, Netscape. Brewster is charged by G+J with doubling its $400m US operations via launches and acquisitions.

USA -- Internet service provider Earthlink has named TBWA/Chiat/Day to handle its $50m advertising account – previous incumbent BBDO West, San Francisco. BBDO had handled the business only since February, its appointment following EarthLink’s merger with MindSpring. The latest upheaval stems from the strategic alliance announced in January between Earthlink and Apple Computer. TBWA is Apple's long-term agency of record.
