THE CREDIT CARD-CUM-DISCOUNT scheme operated by Centrica and US-owned HFC Bank is to be investigated by gas industry regulator Ofgas for possible breaches of anti-competition rules. An Ofgas consultation document invites comments on whether the Goldfish scheme is anti-competitive and discriminatory in attempting to bind customers to Centrica. One of the card’s main features is a discount scheme offering Centrica customers up to £75-off their annual gas bill. Ofgas could order Goldfish to extend the discount to Centica’s competitors.
