Britney Spears, the 18-year-old from Kentwood, Louisiana and the youngest artist ever to debut both with a number one album and single, has been signed to a global marketing contract by the Pepsi-Cola Company.

Spears will front for Pepsi in the brand’s TV commercials, the first of which is scheduled for March 25 during the Academy Awards broadcast. The commercials by BBDO Worldwide, New York, will be supported by point-of-purchase displays. Pepsi will also be one of the main sponsors of the singer’s upcoming concert tour.

The news release was otherwise short on incidental detail – like how many dollars are to change hands and the duration of the contract.
